What Size Tubes Should I Use?

An extremely common question we receive is "What size Miracle Tubes should I use?" or "I'm buying trees that are 24-36" tall, why would I need 60" Miracle Tubes?"

Why 60" is ALMOST ALWAYS the size to use:  

• Keeps the terminal bud out of deer's reach. Deer can often browse above the top of a 36" or even a 48" tube. Once the leader is eaten, the tree loses height and can become misshapen. A 60" tube allows the tree to grow well beyond typical browsing height before it's exposed.

• Longer-lasting protection. Because the tree stays inside the tube longer, it receives several years of protection from deer rubbing, rabbits, voles, and accidental mower or trimmer damage.

• Produces straighter trees. The tube encourages vertical growth, resulting in a straighter central leader—especially beneficial for hardwoods like oaks, walnuts, and chestnuts.

• Reduces competition. Taller tubes help keep grass and weeds from shading the young stem, giving the tree a better start.

• Fewer replacements. With shorter tubes, many growers end up installing a taller tube a few years later. Starting with a 60" tube often eliminates that extra expense and labor.

When a smaller tube may be enough:

A 36" or 48" tube can work well if:

• Deer populations are low.

• The planting is fenced.

• You're growing shrubs or species that naturally branch low.

• Your primary concern is rabbit and rodent protection rather than deer browsing.

Best choice for wildlife and reforestation plantings:

For food plots, habitat projects, CRP plantings, timber production, and most rural properties with moderate to heavy deer populations, 60-inch Miracle Tubes generally provide the best long-term value. The higher initial cost is often offset by better tree survival, faster establishment, and fewer trees lost to browsing.
